Spring gardens This area used to be mainly fruit trees but most have succumbed to old age and their places filled with ornamentals and under planted with a succession of bulbs, Snowdrop, Crocus, Daffodil, Bluebell (also in pink and white) and Fritillaria meleagris (Snakes head fritillary) in shades of pinkish-purple or white. Here also are Rhododendrons, Pieris, Hamamelis (Witch hazel), Halesia (snowdrop tree), Actinidia chinensis (Kiwi fruit) with clusters of yellowish flowers, Acer palmatum dissectum atropurpureum and Araucaria araucana (Monkey puzzle) under planted with Allium siculum.
