This Month

This Month December 2025 - Monday, 01 Dec 2025

November – another month sunk without trace and little to show for it. In my defence m’lud I have spent some of it under the weather, I don’t mean just the heavy rain!
I did get all the planting out done which was a great achievement as I didn’t know where most of it could go when I gathered all the pots together. It was a few wheelbarrow loads to different areas of the garden and included several trees. I really am running out of space for large plants, at least that is what I keep telling myself. Although that changes every time I see a tree I would like.
I have also been trying to get the heavier pruning done so as we go into the new year it will be lighter work which, if I run out of time, will not matter too much. I am also pruning the apple trees on days when my back requires that I do standing jobs. One day spent doing this job I had the pleasure of watching a Red Kite soaring over the garden for quite some time. I have recently seen some Firecrests, beautiful little birds and regularly pause to watch a family of Long-tailed Tits or a Sparrowhawk dashing through the garden.
It is crazy to see some of the plants in flower which would normally not be out until well into spring, such as some of the Rhododendrons. I hope they still flower in a few months as they should. The weather has been all over the place, swinging from frost one day to coats off the next.

Popular Local Garden wins RHS Award
Moors Meadow Gardens is regional winner of
RHS Partner Garden of the Year 2025
Moors Meadow Gardens near Bromyard has been voted regional winner for the Midlands and East Region of England in the UK-wide RHS Partner Garden of the Year 2025 competition, following a nationwide public vote organised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).

Now in its fifth year, the annual competition asked RHS Members and the general public to vote for the garden that brought them the most joy during their visit. Thousands of votes were cast between April and September 2025.

An inspirational 7 acre organic hillside garden, Moors Meadow is a tranquil haven where plants and wildlife flourish. Created and tended by the same family, and now worked by self-confessed ‘rabid plantaholic’ Ros, who contrives to shoehorn-in rarely seen species from around the world which mingle with the native to give a pleasing and unique effect.

Meandering paths will lead you through hidden glades and open up superb vistas. The many seats and sculptures are forged by local craftsmen or home-made with recycled materials and add to the personal style of the garden.

Ros is now a published author with her book, ‘Gardening by the Seat of Your Pants’, a personal guided tour of Moors Meadow Gardens.

Upon receiving the award Ros said: “ Obviously, I love my garden and am very passionate about plants but I cannot describe how delighted, amazed and humbled I am that so many garden visitors have taken the time to vote for it as their favourite Partner Garden of the Year. Many tell me how much they like the garden but to actually follow it up by voting is something I hold very special.”
Prunella Murray, RHS Partner Gardens Manager said: “The RHS Partner Garden of the Year competition is all about celebrating the gardens that bring people real joy, shining a spotlight on the spaces that truly connect with people and inspire a love of gardening. This year’s winners highlight the incredible variety of gardens we are lucky to have in the RHS Partner Garden scheme. They are all worth a visit!”

The RHS Partner Garden network includes over 230 outstanding independent gardens of all shapes and sizes - some well-known, others less so - in the UK and abroad, each demonstrating significant horticultural interest which may include unusual design, inspiring planting schemes, notable plant collections, gardening heritage or emerging garden trends. All RHS Partner Gardens kindly allow RHS Members to visit for free at selected times throughout the year.
